Whitey Nel Bicycle Tour from Nigel to Durban.
The main aim of this project is fundraising.
60% of our residents are in receipt of only government pension. Although we receive government subsidy to host these people, their children have to contribute to fill the gap between above mentioned funds and our unit cost, which amounts to R 2000.00 per person per month. Those who do not have children and cannot contribute by themselves have to be subsidized by us. Nigel Home for the Aged is a nonprofit organization and therefore we cannot withhold persons who need the care from our facility. We launch several fundraising projects throughout the year - of which this cycle tour is one. What makes this one different is that an elderly person, Mr. Whitey Nel, aged 73 took the initiative of this project. He volunteered to drive by bicycle from Nigel, Gauteng to Durban, KZN a distance of more than 600km. This event is planned to take place from 16 August to 24 August 2010. He will be accompanied by several other cyclists. Some of them are over the age of 50 years.
WE INVITE PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE CARE OF ELDERLY PEOPLE TO HELP US WITH THIS UNIQUE PROJECT, BY DONATING AND/OR SPONSORING THESE CYCLISTS PER KILOMETRE FOR THEIR JOURNEY TO DURBAN.
